Today we slept in and had a great breakfast of eggs and bacon that Pat had made for us.
1st thing we did was tour Warkworth Castle in Northumberland which is just a little north of Newcastle where we were staying.
| This is the view once we cross the moat into the courtyard of the castle. | |
This is where many a meals were once eaten....
This was the chapel.
These stairs in the castle lead up to...
| ...this view of the town. | |
Then we drove south, took some pictures at the Angel of the North and then drove on to Durham.
The Angel of the North is a massive sculpture that was recently erected outside of Newcastle. Some say it was built by people with more money than sense.
In Durham, we toured the Durham Church of England Cathedral. It dates back to 1093.
The graveyard.
We had the opportunity to climb the steeple of the church...325 steps!
It was an exhausting climb!
| And this is the view we climbed all those stairs to see. | |
We climbed that!
We did a little tourist shopping in town....
...and got to watch a scottish band play in the square. After getting back to Pat's house, we relaxed with some tea and biscuits and played some cribbage while watching the Simpsons. For dinner, Pat made us Lankeshire Hot Pot which was excellent!
