Day 1 - Our Arrival

On Thursday, May 24, 2001, Eileen, John and Z set out to the United Kingdom to visit our friends Jeff and Tammy who were  staying in Bolton, England on a teacher exchange program.  We had a 8 hour flight from Minneapolis, Minnesota to Amsterdam and then an hour flight from Amsterdam to Manchester.

At Manchester airport, Tammy met us after dealing with a cancelled train, a late train and a train with a stuck door.
From the Manchester airport, we took a train to Bolton and loaded our 3 golf bags, 3 suitcases, 3 carry ons and a camcorder bag as well as the four of us into a taxi van (people mover).
We went from the train station directly to Jeff and Tammy's house and began to settle in.
We got a tour of the little two story condo they've been staying in for almost the past year and walked around their garden/yard.
Tammy took us for a walk through the park and then to the "Ploughman Pub" for lunch where we had roast beef sandwiches, hot beef muffin with gravy and chips (french fries to us Americans).  When we went into town to tour and run a few errands we realized that lunch really made the weary travellers drowsy so we went back to the condo to take a nap.
At the end of our naps, Jeff came home from work and Jeff, John and Z went golfing at the Westhaughton private course.  While they were out, Eileen and Tammy chatted and Joel came down from Glasgow where he was staying there for business.  After the boys came back from golfing, we had pizza for dinner out on the back patio.
