Friday NightMemorial day weekend was spent at the Mannie cabin on Lake Wappogasset. The one hour drive took one and a half hours due to heavy traffic. Everyone must have been trying to get out of the city at the same time! We arrived at 8:30 pm, thirty minutes late but only 10 minutes after Clayton and his girlfriend Jill. We sat outside and talked and then went to bed.

SaturdayThe next morning started right away with hard labor! Jill started inflating the water toys while the boys started putting the dock out in the water. Eileen started raking and raking and raking. The next door neighbor volunteered to mow the lawn with his riding lawn mower and we were very very thankful for that! Ali, JP, Riley and Bear showed up an hour after we got to work and JP helped with putting the dock and boat lifts out. Ali and Riley put on their bathing suits and went for a swim with the large inflatable bed. When Chuck showed up, he got to looking at the leaking pipe underneath the cabin and that task consumed pretty much the rest of his afternoon. Ali walked out on the end of the dock when it fell down about a foot into the water. Way to build the dock guys!Paul, Deneena and
Kennedy showed up and Paul got to helping Eileen and John rake leaves and
then went to help Chuck fix the water pipe.
Jill and Clayton worked on their tans, Ali, Riley and Bear took a nap, JP went fishing and Chuck, Paul and John were able to fix the pipe. The hardware store guy was nice enough to sodder a pipe fitting for him but Chuck accidentally cut that end off. While raking, John rested his beer and favorite can cooler on the bumper of the Blazer which stayed on the bumper the whole time Chuck left to get a piece to replace the part he cut off. After the pipe was fixed, everyone rushed to the bathroom!
JP, Ali, Riley, Deneena and Kennedy went for a boat ride to go fishing for about 15 minutes until Riley decided that he had issues. That is when JP and Ali decided that going to the cabin with a 3 year old and a 11 month old dog was not a good idea. They went home that evening to follow the path of least resistance.
While Eileen was
geeking out on the laptop, Chuck and the Hughes family went for a boat
ride and drove around the lake a couple of times. Clayton and Jill
took naps.
At Dusk, Clayton and Jill went for a romantic boat sitting while Eileen worked on this web page and John and Chuck talked about their plans to buy the cabin from Dad.
Chuck, John and Eileen attempted to start a fire. Attempted is the key word. They threw everything in there from wet leaves to shellac in a can that "looked" like lighter fluid. All the attempts at remembering how to build a fire from Boy Scouts ended up with a great smoke pit!
Nights at the cabin are something to remember!

SundayThe morning started with Clatyon's attempt at making breakfast burritos. After relinguishing breakfast chef duties to Eileen and John and eating breakfast, Clayton and Jill went out for some more sun worshipping. Eileen and John went into town to buy some flowers at an effort at beautifying the cabin area. After planting the flowers in a pot that can't be moved because the bottom fell out, John and Eileen prepared the water toys to join Clayton and Jill at some sun worshipping.
Chuck napped on the dock, Clayton and Jill had the floatable inflateable beds and Eileen and John had the inner tubes. While laying out, Brian and Tara showed up with Nate, their yellow lab.
Brian immediately began discussing his plans for cabin renovation with John while Tara caught up on some studying for her Master's degree.
During lunch, Brian's sister Lisa showed up. After lunch, the boys waited for their stomachs to settle before throwing the fishing boat in the water. Lisa, Tara and Eileen sat in the front of the boat girl talking while Clayton and Jill sun bathed in the back of the boat.
Nate quickly became the center of attraction as Brian tried to first, get him used to swimming and second, tried to get him to be brave and jump into the water off the dock. Brian would throw the dog toy out in the water and as long as Nate could keep his paws on ground, he would get it, but if the toy was so far out that it required swimming, he would wait for it to come closer to shore. After awhile, he got brave and would swim out for it but no number of attempts could get him to jump off the dock.
The sun went down on our side of the lake so we decided to get in the boat to get to the other side of the lake. After getting the boat filled at Mort's and saying goodbye to Clayton and Jill, Chuck, Lisa, Brian and Tara played a game of Yahtzee where Tara came out victorious by one point over Chuck. After Tara finishing reading her book for class, Tara, Lisa, Eileen, John, Chuck and Brian played a game of bocce ball. The team of Lisa and Chuck beat John/Eileen and Tara/Brian with a score of 11 to 10 and 10 respectively. Lisa, Brian and Tara
said their goodbyes and it was back to more raking and cleaning for John,
Chuck and Eileen. After putting away the water toys and boats, a
great supper of left over breakfast burrito stuffing, nachos and hamburgers
were enjoyed.
